Terms of use
Effective 7 October 2026 · Update 15 October 2026 · Version 2026-10-07
Operator and contact
WORK89™ is operated by RISEN JOURNEY (Pty) Ltd, a South African private company, Registration No. 2026/674738/07, based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Website: work89.co. Email: work89@risenapp.io. Temporary telephone support: +971 50 182 1056. Formal requests may be submitted through Data rights. A non-residential public service address is being arranged; legally required notices can meanwhile be delivered electronically by agreement through the listed email address.
Eligibility and acceptance
You must be at least 18 years old and legally capable of accepting these terms. You must provide accurate information and protect your account. By creating or continuing an account after a material update, you accept the version shown to you. Do not create an account for another person without lawful authority.
What WORK89 provides
WORK89 provides profiles, worker and job discovery, recommendations, applications, invitations, direct service requests, communication, optional document review, moderation and digital work records. Availability varies by country and feature. Matching is a recommendation; people make their own hiring and work decisions.
Worker and hirer relationship
Unless WORK89 expressly agrees otherwise in writing, WORK89 is not the worker, hirer, employer, temporary employment service, agent or party performing the work. The people involved must determine the lawful nature of their relationship and comply with employment, independent-contractor, immigration, tax, wage, safety and sector rules. Platform wording cannot change a relationship that the law treats as employment.
Jobs, requests and agreements
Listings and requests must be genuine, lawful, non-discriminatory and sufficiently clear. Before work begins, both sides should confirm scope, location, timing, pay, payment method, safety and cancellation expectations. Hirers must keep listings accurate and close, pause or update them promptly. WORK89 may expire, hide or remove misleading, unlawful, unsafe or inactive content.
Optional Journey sharing
Journey is available only for accepted active work. The hirer first chooses and activates a fixed destination; the worker separately chooses whether to activate live location sharing while travelling there. Either participant may withdraw Journey consent. Journey is not public proximity matching, permanent monitoring, mutual live tracking or an emergency service, and device or network limitations may affect updates.
Doer card
A Doer may switch on a public card to share their skills by link or QR code, and is responsible for keeping their profile true. Anyone who uses a card to ask for work must agree the work, pay and place with the Doer; WORK89 is not a party to that agreement and does not guarantee any work. WORK89 may switch off a card that breaks these rules or the law.
Meetings and recording
Members may schedule meetings and hold video meetings in WORK89 rooms. A host may only record or transcribe a meeting after switching on that option, and only people who agreed to it on entering may be recorded. The host may share the transcript and summary of a recorded meeting, never the audio or video, with the people who attended, and shared transcripts are deleted 7 days after the meeting like the recording. Do not record, copy or share a meeting in any other way without everyone’s agreement. Recording and transcripts are a paid feature that WORK89 may switch on for selected accounts, and they are never required to attend a meeting. Meeting links, passcodes and recordings are for the invited people only. WORK89 does not guarantee that a transcript is accurate. People without an account can join a room as a guest with the meeting passcode, so hosts are responsible for who they invite and for keeping passcodes private. Files shared in a meeting can be opened by everyone on that meeting, must be lawful and yours to share, and can be removed by the person who added them or by the host. A meeting is not a work agreement: agree the work and payment in the WORK89 agreement. A host may switch on an agreement helper for a meeting between two members, which turns English speech into text to help write down what was agreed; everyone is asked to agree first. Anything written down this way is the two members’ own record, it counts only once both confirm it, it is not legal advice, and WORK89 is not a party to it.
Payments and fees
WORK89 does not receive, hold or transfer money between workers and hirers, and does not reverse or guarantee payments between them. Payment acknowledgements record what users declare and confirm; they are not bank receipts. WORK89 may sell sponsor placements and other services to businesses; those payments are processed by Paystack under separate terms shown before you pay. Workers are not charged to find or obtain work and must never pay merely to apply or obtain placement. If any other paid service is introduced, its price, taxes, payer, cancellation and refund rules will be shown before purchase under separate commercial terms. WORK89 will not deduct a placement fee from a worker’s remuneration where prohibited by law.
Electronic transactions
Before any paid WORK89 transaction, the user must be able to review the service, full price and applicable terms, correct mistakes and withdraw before placing the order. An electronic record will be made available. Required cancellation, cooling-off, refund and dispute rights will apply and cannot be excluded by these terms.
Safety, documents and verification
Never send money merely to apply, disclose passwords or upload identity documents outside the private Verification Centre. A WORK89 review indicator records a limited manual document review, not government, biometric or liveness verification and not a guarantee of identity, conduct, qualifications, safety, work quality or payment. A user in a regulated profession (for example medicine, law, engineering, accounting or teaching) may optionally display a professional registration or licence number, such as an HPCSA, SACE, SAICA or similar council or professional-body number, on their public profile. This is a self-reported declaration only; WORK89 does not verify it against any regulatory body, professional council or licensing authority. Anyone relying on it must independently confirm the professional's registration, licence and standing directly with the relevant body before engaging them, exactly as they would from a business card, referral or search result. Users must conduct reasonable checks and use emergency services where immediate danger exists.
Content and intellectual property
You retain ownership of content you lawfully upload and grant WORK89 a non-exclusive licence to host, reproduce and display it only as needed to operate and promote the relevant platform feature. You must have permission for photographs, videos, music, documents and personal information you submit. Do not upload confidential, infringing, abusive or illegal content.
Your content and notices
You are responsible for what you post. If you believe content on WORK89 is unlawful or infringes your rights, email work89@risenapp.io with your full name and contact details, where the content is, which right or law you say it breaches, what you want done, and a statement that the information in your notice is accurate. WORK89 may remove or disable content after a notice or on its own review, and will tell the person who posted it, where it can. You are responsible to WORK89 for loss it suffers because content you posted breaches the law or someone else’s rights.
Confidence, messages and prohibited conduct
Confidence is how people who completed work together feel about working with each other again. Profiles show it as a colour and a name (New, Building, Steady, Strong, Trusted or Mixed) built from jobs both sides confirmed. It is an opinion about a completed job, not a statement of fact about someone’s character, and it is not a guarantee. Written notes must stick to what happened. If you think an entry is unfair or untrue, use Report a problem. Confidence entries and notes must relate to genuine WORK89 activity. Fraud, harassment, exploitation, hate, unlawful discrimination, impersonation, scraping, spam, malware, evasion of safety controls and misuse of personal information are prohibited. Accounts, content and access may be restricted where reasonably necessary, with records and review processes appropriate to the risk. A person who is the subject of a confidence entry may ask WORK89 to look again at an entry or note that is false, unlawful or not about genuine WORK89 activity. WORK89 decides and records its reasons.
Commerce Corner
The Commerce Corner is a place where businesses can show a card. WORK89 is software: it is not the seller, does not take orders or payments, does not deliver and does not guarantee sales. A business is responsible for what it says, for any licence or certificate the law requires (for example a municipal food Certificate of Acceptability, which WORK89 does not check), and for how it deals with customers. Medicines, alcohol, tobacco, weapons, fake or stolen goods and unlawful or unsafe goods and services cannot be listed. A business can post a picture with a short caption on its card, and may use only pictures it owns or has permission to use. WORK89 may remove a post or card that breaks these rules or the law. Members can message a business from its card. Do not send passwords or bank details, and do not use messages to harass, spam or deceive: a business can block you, either person can report a conversation, and WORK89 may restrict accounts that break these rules. A business can list only after WORK89 approves it. A business may choose to share its card by a link. Anyone with the link can then see the card and the contact details on it without signing in, and the owner can switch sharing off at any time, after which the link stops working. WORK89 decides the order in which cards are shown, and marks any card that is promoted as Featured. WORK89 may hide or remove a card that breaks these rules or the law. A doctor, dentist or other health professional may show a practice card with an optional profession, professional council and registration number, practice number, medical aid status and address. These details are the practitioner’s own declaration and WORK89 does not check them. The practitioner is responsible for being registered and for following their council’s rules on advertising. A practice card is not medical advice, shows no Confidence or reviews, and is not for emergencies. Businesses in regulated fields, such as law, property, construction, security, child care, education, transport and farming, are responsible for holding the registrations and permits the law requires. Any registration or licence a card shows is the owner’s own statement and WORK89 does not check it. Loans, investments and financial advice cannot be listed unless the business holds the licence the law requires.
Consumer rights and platform limits
Nothing excludes rights that cannot lawfully be excluded. WORK89 will provide the service with reasonable care but cannot promise uninterrupted availability, employment, applicants, suitability, conduct, payment or a particular outcome. Liability is not excluded where doing so would be unlawful, including for gross negligence or legally protected consumer rights.
Limit of liability
To the extent the law allows, WORK89’s total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of WORK89 is limited to the amount you paid WORK89 in the 12 months before the claim arose, or R1,000 if you paid nothing. WORK89 is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for lost income or opportunity, or for what other users do or fail to do, including non-payment, poor work, unsafe conduct or misleading information. This limit does not apply where the law does not allow it, including for gross negligence or intentional wrongdoing, or where it would take away rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act.
Ending an account
You may stop using WORK89 and request deletion through Account settings or Data rights. Some information may be retained where necessary for active work, safety, fraud prevention, disputes, legal claims or law. Suspension or termination does not erase obligations or lawful records that must survive.
Law, complaints and international use
These terms are governed by South African law, subject to mandatory rights that apply where a user lives or works. International availability does not mean every feature is legally approved in every country. Contact WORK89 first through Support; privacy requests use Data rights. Please allow 30 days for WORK89 to resolve a complaint. Users may approach an applicable regulator, consumer body, labour authority or court. The courts of South Africa have jurisdiction, with Gauteng as the usual venue, without limiting any right a consumer has to use another court, the National Consumer Commission or the Consumer Tribunal.
Changes
Material changes will be dated and communicated. Continued account use may require fresh acceptance. No future payment or fee term applies merely because it is mentioned as an aspiration.
Legal compliance is an operating process. WORK89 will review these terms as countries, regulated services and commercial features are introduced.
